Forward-looking and creative, the cooperative cellar Alma Cersius believes in the idea that a glass of wine should be nothing but delicious. It is a combination of 150 passionate and committed winegrowers who pool their know-how and expertise.
Located in the south of France, in the Languedoc region, and more precisely at the gates of Béziers, Alma Cersius vines thrive on Cers, Portiragnes, Puimisson and Villeneuve-lès-Béziers areas.
Alma Cersius’ vineyard extends over 1400 hectares, fully classified as IGP Pays d’Oc, Coteaux de Beziers and Côtes de Thongue. The vineyard benefits from the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea which tempers the heat of the summer months on these alluvial soils made up of pebbles and clay.
Thanks to its expertise and precision work, the Alma Cersius cooperative cellar receives each year a large number of medals and cuvées rated in major national and international competitions.
Terroir & Vineyard
The Alma Cersius’ vineyard is planted on two main terroirs
850 hectares of pebbles: this soil is warm and draining, reflecting heat and light to encourage the full ripeness of the grapes. The Cabernet Sauvignon in their Gardian rouge blend thrives in a hot and dry climate, which brings out dominant notes of blackcurrant and jammy fruits. Its aromas are enhanced on stony, slightly acidic soils. The drainage provided by the stoniness of the soils and the stored heat ensures optimal ripeness of this grape variety.
350 hectares of alluvial clay soils indicate the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea and offer cooler soil. It is on these soils that the Chardonnay, vinified for their Code range, grows. This variety adapts very well to temperate continental climates and to their clayey limestone soils. On this terroir, it can express a rich aromatic palette composed of melon, pear, lemon, and even exotic hints.
The lithology of these soils, combined with the microclimates, forms a sandy-stony mineralogical mosaic of old terraces, silts, clays, and even basalt.
Winemakers & know-how
150 personalities and 150 different experiences. These individuals are gathered and organized around a working model in the vineyard. While respecting major qualitative codes, each winegrower brings their own touch and personality to their territory.
Supported by the experience of the elders, the younger generations are passionate about the vine. These young, knowledgeable winegrowers are deeply attached to and concerned about the future of their vineyard. Focused on tomorrow, they cultivate their vines using environmentally friendly farming practices, much to the delight of wine lovers.
