Beaujardin Moncartier
Our director, Joseph, grew up in the Loire Valley and knows where to find some good wine. It seems like Decanter agrees with Joseph as this wine received a 91/100. It also won a silver medal in 2023 in the Macon wine competition.
Wines have been grown here since the Renaissance. With the climate getting warmer, the reds of the Loire valley are starting to punch above their weight. Made from grapes grown in former abbey of St Julien in the 16th century, this old vine gamay is rich in raspberry notes , with a long finish. We hope our Irish customers will appreciate the prayers we offered up trying to get this wine here.
You could age this wine for another couple of years, but it is very pleasant and easy to drink right now. Gamay is a lighter, fruitier wine, but this bottle has more depth and is just a delight to drink.
Tasting: Spice and black fruits and some raspberry, well-structured and balanced
Pairings: This goes very well with lamb or beef dishes.
